BIBLE STUDY GROUPS (Wednesday Evenings)

On Wednesday evening we have one Bible Study option available … spend some time in prayer to determine if this is where God wants to transform you this fall

Study Name: Modern Parables – Living in the Kingdom of God
Author: Thomas Purifoy
Led by: Nancy Kawaguchi
Location: GBC Community Room

Led by: Nancy Kawaguchi

Modern Parables is an original Bible study curriculum for people who like movies. It is the first in a planned series of film-driven studies on the parables. The films are uniquely designed to parallel the original parable and thereby drive the viewer back toward the Biblical text. The study uses short dramatic films that explain Jesus’ parables using the particular strength of the cinematic medium. In other words, just watching the films helps teach the historical, grammatical, contextual elements in the parables. Modern Parables lets people grasp the parables at an immediate, gut level. This emotional immediacy enables them to engage the Bible in a powerful and compelling new way.

Each of the parables is covered in two chapters: one on “Understanding the Parable” and one on “Living the Parable.” The “Understanding” chapters include background and context, section-by-section exegesis, and the relationship of the parable to the Kingdom of God. The “Living” chapters include a transcript of the pastor’s talk in the corresponding Application Video as well as specific Biblical texts from other parts of the Bible that relate to the parable. The first “Living” chapter also includes a discussion of the four questions concerning Biblical application.
